A full redesign of a powerful healthcare analytics tool.

Scenario — A decision was made to build a new analytics tool in React alongside our current web app; adding net-new functionality to our users, enabling powerful analytics, and refreshing the customer experience and UI simultaneously. We nailed the UX.

// To be honest, I could make a whole portfolio on this project

Approach

Even with 8 years under our belt as a company, with continuous discovery along the way, it is still essential that we research and validate every decision and every design in order to mitigate business risk and nail the experience for our users.

What follows is the end-to-end approach, step by step from research to results

SETTING THE STAGE

Risk Mitigation

Research, Discovery, & Validation

Over 20 interviews across personas were conducted in the month kicking off the redesign as well as a backlog audit.

We balanced business needs of market parity and more powerful analytics with key experience improvments, enabling users to achieve their jobs to be done delightfully.

We came away with quotes detailing major holes in workflows, workaround, key shortcomings in the capability of our tool, and a clear path forward.

VALIDATION

 Applying the discovery

A series of clickable wireframes enabled rapid iteration

We tested our hypotheses and designs using  low investment, high return clickable Figma prototypes which we had key users complete essential workflows.

The image shows one of several flows that were validated and used to learn

Testing these wireframes gave us the product confidence that leadership was seeking, and the confidence that the developers would be building a validated experience.

BREAKING GROUND

, BUILDING BLOCKS

A styled component library provided the groundwork to move quickly

After validation, we needed build quickly, so we built a component library and started putting the lego blocks together to shape our new platform.

The library, synced Figma, Storybook, and Jira, ensuring consistent designs, and straight forward front-end engineering, as well as baked in accessiblity.

Wireframes translated into high fidelity demos

These Figma demos served as clear blueprints for the engineers to build with speed and clarity.

I hammered out UX tickets with links, imagery, guidance, userstories, and various UX scenarios using the Gherkin techinque

BUILDING & TESTING

With the Dev environment running; We’re refining…

Once our engineering team had built the UI and wired up the API on some meaningful flows, we began scheduling testing sessions to confirm users were able to achieve their desired outcomes. In this case, building a complex healthcare report with ease.

We’re documenting and prioritizing enhancements currently.
